Ahhh what a beautiful sight... As the BCS rankings were released this week, our old familiar favorite was on top once again. OU has been atop the BCS rankings for more weeks than any other school since its inception in the late 90's. Needless to say, this ranking was followed by much grumbling from old rivals of ours (remember losses to Boise St and Oregon in the not so distant past? who could forget...) that are ahead of us in the less objective coaches and AP polls. Looks like playing a tough nonconference schedule might have its benefits after all and might actually be worth the ulcers it gave a good portion of the Sooner Nation this year.
Well, the last two weeks have seen a #1 team fall. That could be good or bad news since technically Oregon has to carry that banner too. But we carry it into the Tigers den. OU travels to #11 Mizzou for the Gameday game of the week. Its a HUGE game with national title implications for each team. You can be sure that Mizzou will be up for this one as we have pwned them recently.
We will be gathering once again at Blackfinn Saloon in Epicenter for an OU Club of Charlotte watch party! They loved us there last time we were there for the OU/tx matchup. We had a great turnout and a lively crowd. Lets mobilize again and show them how WE do it!! Parking is available in the epicenter parking garage. See you there!

RED RIVER RIVALRY WEEKEND IS HERE!!!

Well, if you're a student at OU, you relish this day. Classes are cancelled and many if not all of your friends that are going to the game are either on their way to Dallas or already settled into their hotel and getting ready to light the town on fire! For those of us that live elsewhere and are not going to the game, the anticipation is also building. Will Landry "the stache" Jones be able to pass on the vaunted longhorn secondary and avoid late game mistakes? Will our kicking game make it to the game or will they stay on the bus again this year? Which defense will show up? All these issues and many more will lead to a very interesting game (and probably a few ulcers!) against a shorthorn team that choked against the Bruins of UCLA last week at home. I'm sure they would love nothing more than to get a rebound victory on good ol' OU.
As I mentioned before, the OU club of Charlotte is having a watch party at Blackfinn tomorrow. The game is at 3:30pm and I will be arriving a little before that to make sure we have real estate secured. Feel free to come out anytime and join me! Bring your fellow OU supporters even if they didn't go to OU. We welcome them as long as they'll root for the crimson and cream!!

Well folks, its time for our annual tilt against the shorthorns! We have secured a location to watch the game this saturday, october 2nd. The watch party will be at Blackfinn American Saloon on the lower level of the Epicenter in downtown Charlotte. No doubt it will be an excellent location to watch our Sooners kick off our most recent winning streak against this bitter rival.
Just as soon as we can compile the list of members and your contact info, an email will be sent out with more details. Also, feel free to check back here for updates as well. I'm new to the group but will do my best to keep y'all up to date as I get more info.

• Oklahoma moved on to the Elite Eight and denied Jim Boeheim win No. 800.

• Blake Griffin had 30 points and 14 rebounds, becoming the first player since Mike Maloy of Davidson in 1969 to record 25 points and 10 rebounds in his first three tournament games. Griffin was 12-for-15 from the field.

• Tony Crocker had 28 points for the Sooners after scoring eight in the first two rounds. The Sooners shot 54.2 percent from the field and had 11 steals.

• Syracuse missed its first 10 3-pointers and finished 7-for-24 from behind the arc. The Orange also had 18 turnovers.

The OU Sooners have reached number three in the polls. If Ohio State can get it together and beat USC and Georgia has a bad day against the other USC from Carolina, then the only thing that is standing in the way of the Sooners and that number 1 ranking is the Huskies from Seattle.

The last time these two teams met, OU came away with a 37-20 win in Norman in 2006. That was a long, long time ago. And these Huskies are coming off a BYU loss that cut to the heart.

This really should be a great matchup. The differences in these two teams is seen on both sides of the ball.

Sam Braford has these guys running on full throttle. The OU offense is averaging 539.5 yards per game and the Sooners passing attack is ranked 8th in the nation with 350 yards per contest. U-Dub's offense is ranked 97th in the nation.

On the defensive side of the line, OU is giving up 181 yards per game which ranks them 8th in the nation. The Huskies come in ranked 112th in the country in total defense.

Even the kickoff returns shows the Sooners ranked number 6 in the nation while UW comes into Saturday's game ranked 95th with 16.5 yards per return.

Oklahoma begins season at No. 4 in Associated Press poll.

NORMAN, Okla. -- Oklahoma was ranked No. 4 in the Associated Press preseason poll released today (August 16). The Sooners were the highest-ranked team in the Big 12 followed by No. 6 Missouri, No. 11 Texas, No. 12 Texas Tech and No. 14 Kansas. OU was also ranked at No. 4 in the Coaches Poll.

Oklahoma has a long and illustrious history with the Associated Press poll since the service began in 1936. The Sooners have been ranked in the top five more than any other team and ranked No. 1 for 95 weeks (tied for No. 1 with Notre Dame). OU has finished No. 1 in the final poll and crowned national champions by the wire service seven times.

OU has the most appearances at No. 1, in the Top 5 and in the Top 10 of the AP preseason poll.

The first game of the season will be against Chattanooga, August 30th at 7 pm. Last year Chattanooga finished 2-9, this year they are picked to finish 7th in the Southern conference.

Sooner Fan Guide to San Antonio

NORMAN, Okla. -- The Oklahoma Sooners (10-2) make their sixth appearance in the past eight seasons in the Big 12 Championship Game on Saturday night at the Alamodome. OU, with conference crowns in 2006, 2004, 2002 and 2000, is aiming to become the first Big 12 team to win back-to-back titles.

The Sooners handed top-ranked Mizzou (11-1) its only loss of the season, 41-31, in Norman on October 13. Since that loss, MU has reeled off six wins and jumped to No. 1 in the BCS. Women's Basketball- OU vs Maryland

The OU Women's Basketball team will be playing in Chapel Hill on Sunday, Nov. 11th at 5pm. The OU Club of Raleigh has arranged for the UNC ticket
office to hold a block of tickets for OU fans. The tickets are $15. If you are interested in going to the game call UNC at 800-722-4335 (then option 4) and ask for tickets in the Oklahoma University Booster Section. You can have the tickets held at "Will Call" and pick them up on Sunday.

The tickets will allow you to watch the UNC vs Arizona State game and OU vs Maryland. You do not have to see the first game if you do not want to. The OU game is at 5:00 PM and the UNC game is at 2:30 PM .

Missouri-Oklahoma Preview

Top 25 Overview

Norman, OK - 6:30 PM ET

Missouri faces its stiffest test of the season when it heads to Norman to take on Oklahoma. Under coach Gary Pinkel the Tigers have had their troubles against ranked teams, going 2-15 in his seven years at the school. The Sooners have 16 of the last 17 games against Missouri.

Missouri passed one big test last weekend. To prove it belongs among the Big 12's elite teams, the 11th-ranked Tigers need to come up with another landmark victory.

Missouri visits No. 6 Oklahoma on Saturday in a possible Big 12 championship game preview.

Both teams maintained their title hopes with big victories last weekend. After a shocking 27-24 upset loss to Colorado on Sept. 29, the Sooners responded with a 28-21 victory over arch-rival and then-No. 19 Texas in Dallas last Saturday.

Missouri (5-0, 1-0) finally prevailed against a ranked team, pounding then-No. 25 Nebraska 41-6 at home to preserve its unbeaten start. The Tigers are 5-0 for the second straight season and have obtained their highest ranking since 1981, when they rose as high as No. 8 in the nation.

But to prove they're not a fluke, the Tigers need to assert themselves against the higher-ranked Sooners (5-1, 1-1).

"It's the biggest game we've had here," Missouri quarterback Chase Daniel said. "It's a big game because it's the next game. As I said last week, we're not approaching it like a do-or-die, it's your life, you better win, if you don't win, you're going to be fired. It's a football game, just go out there, have fun, play hard, do what you can and move the football."

The Tigers are used to getting out to a good start. But they've had trouble finishing seasons strong, particularly when facing ranked opponents. Missouri started 6-0 last season, but ended up 8-5. The Tigers have opened 4-1 or better in three of the past four seasons, but have failed to exceed eight wins.

Missouri's record against ranked foes is even worse. Coach Gary Pinkel is just 2-15 against teams in the AP Top 25 -- including 0-6 on the road -- in his seven years at Missouri, with both wins against Nebraska. The Tigers have lost 13 straight road games to ranked opponents.

This team may be strong enough to end that streak. Quarterback Chase Daniel has entered the Heisman Trophy conversation after throwing for 401 yards and two touchdowns against the Cornhuskers and rushing for another 72 yards and two scores, earning him Big 12 player of the week honors. He's third nationally in total offense, averaging 380 yards per game.

The Tigers had 606 yards of total offense while holding Nebraska to just 297 yards and only two field goals, the first time since 1958 that the Cornhuskers failed to score a touchdown against Missouri.

"We talked about it at the beginning of the year, that if you want to make a move you've got to win some big games and beat some of the best teams," Pinkel said. "This was one. This was a test, we passed this.

"The bad news is we've got to wake up and start preparing for Oklahoma."

The Tigers may be without leading rusher Tony Temple, who has 351 yards this season but is likely to be a gametime decision due to a sprained ankle.

After the loss to Colorado, the Sooners rebounded nicely against the Longhorns. Quarterback Sam Bradford threw for 244 yards, three touchdowns and no interceptions, bouncing back after a poor performance against the Buffaloes.

"He did a great job out there, the way he presented himself," junior wide receiver Juaquin Iglesias said. "I know my first OU-Texas game, I didn't act nearly as he did. It was going too fast for me out there.

"He stood in the pocket for us, he made a lot of plays for us and he's been doing what he's been doing since he started."

Bradford leads the nation with a 187.03 passer rating. The redshirt freshman has thrown 18 touchdown passes to only four interceptions.

The Sooners have outscored the Tigers 128-47 to win the last four meetings in the series, but know they can't afford to look past this Missouri team.

"I just don't get the hangover deal. There isn't anyone in here walking around like we've done something," Oklahoma coach Bob Stoops said. "In the end, what does beating Texas do? It doesn't do anything. We're in the middle of the season, we've only played half of it.

"We're used to competing to win championships here, so you're not going to get a lot of pats on the back around here for not doing that. And the only way to do that is to win this week and keep doing it."

Sooners tailback Allen Patrick is expected to play after missing much of the second half last week against Texas. Stoops said the senior wasn't seriously injured, just suffering from cramps. Patrick had 157 rushing yards in a 26-10 victory over Missouri last season.

Oklahoma has won 16 of the last 17 games between these schools. Missouri?s only win during that time came in 1998, the year before Stoops was hired.

Sooners survive hotly contested Red River Rivalry game

DALLAS -- DeMarco Murray wasn't exactly a nobody before Saturday, but the Oklahoma Sooners redshirt freshman was third on the depth chart at running back, not the kind of credentials that normally translate into a player becoming a big-game icon.

Funny thing about the Oklahoma-Texas rivalry, though: It has a knack for turning heroes into gods, yes, but it also allows virtual nobodies to be heroes.

On Saturday, Murray found a spot in that pantheon, rushing for 129 yards, including the 65-yard touchdown run that gave the Sooners a third-quarter lead on their way to a 28-21 victory over the No. 19 Texas Longhorns at the Cotton Bowl. Murray stepped up after an unspecified injury to starter Allen Patrick and hamstring cramps to star wide receiver Malcolm Kelly robbed the Sooners of their two biggest playmakers early in the third quarter. "To turn around and watch DeMarco go 65, it gave us some momentum back," OU quarterback Sam Bradford said. "It was a spark." Unlike in most of the recent games in the series, that spark didn't turn into a blaze. Murray's emergence was just part of the circus of the unexpected, not the least of which was that the game wasn't the smackdown many Sooners fans expected and Longhorns fans feared. Both sets of fans still were in their seats at the end, with the margin of victory in single digits for the first time since 1997. Oklahoma, 5-1 overall and 1-1 in the Big 12, appeared ready to inflict the Red River Rivalry's typical one-sided outcome when, on the second play after a 35-yard touchdown pass from Bradford to Kelly broke open a 21-21 tie, Reggie Smith intercepted a tipped pass intended for Jamaal Charles and returned it to the UT 39. But the Sooners were flagged for an illegal block on the return and went three-and-out.

Texas couldn't move the ball, either, with quarterback Colt McCoy under-throwing Jordan Shipley on a fourth-and-6 at his own 24-yard line with 1:50 remaining. Then three Oklahoma runs netted 3 yards, and on fourth down, Garrett Hartley kicked a 38-yard field goal try wide left, only his second miss in six tries this season. With only 19 seconds to go 79 yards, McCoy hit Quan Cosby for 17 yards, and with four seconds left, he passed to Nate Jones for 18 yards, but the Longhorns were flagged for holding. Time ran out before they could snap the ball. "I just feel fortunate to be here, winning like this," OU coach Bob Stoops said. McCoy, whose playing status after a concussion against Kansas State a week ago was the topic of Internet speculation that it was worse than advertised, completed 19 of 26 passes for 324 yards and two touchdowns. He was sacked four times, not counting a blindside hit on a play wiped out by a false start, but he got up each time -- albeit a little slowly. Both offenses exploited weaknesses in each other's defenses in the first half by going to their tight ends. Oklahoma used some long balls to the wide receivers and screens to both flats to open the middle near the goal line. Both of Jermaine Gresham's scores came when he released over the middle on play-action passes, finding the open space behind the linebackers in the back of the end zone. Texas exploited Oklahoma's predominant use of Cover 2 zone by matching up Jermichael Finley with a linebacker and hitting him on slants and posts. "All I had to do was beat the linebacker," Finley said, "and I knew I could do that." Finley had three catches for 135 yards at halftime; after Oklahoma tightened the middle of its coverage in the second half, he caught only one pass for 14 yards on the first play of the third quarter. Finley's grab jump-started a promising Texas drive that led to a first-and-goal at the OU 8. After a delay-of-game penalty, Charles took the ball on an inside handoff out of the shotgun and broke through a hole over left tackle. OU middle linebacker Curtis Lofton tackled Charles inside the OU 5, stripping the ball with his left arm. The Sooners' Gerald McCoy recovered at the 4. "Curtis is a clubber," OU defensive coordinator Brent Venables said. "He's very violent when he tackles. He's not a grabber -- he's got two meat cleavers for forearms."

Pinned deep, the Sooners didn't do much with that drive, but on their next possession, Murray ran a stretch play left, cut up, hurdled one of his blockers and outraced Marcus Griffin down the left sideline to put Oklahoma up 21-14 with 4:24 left in the third quarter. After Texas tied the score on Vondrell McGee's 2-yard run on the first series of the fourth quarter, the Longhorns appeared to gain even more momentum when Murray watched the kickoff roll toward the sideline inside the OU 5 instead of picking it up. But it didn't roll far enough fast enough, so he picked it up, only to be tackled at the 6. The Sooners, having established the run and passing to the flats to get the Longhorns thinking horizontally, put together a ball-control drive. On third-and-5 at the UT 35, though, Kelly blew past the Longhorns cornerback, who got no help from his safety, for an easy touchdown. Kelly wasn't sure he was going to play after cramping up at halftime, but he saw something that promised more pain. "Coach Stoops gave me that look that said, 'We need you,' " Kelly said. "It found a way to heal." Now Texas has to find a way to heal a bigger wound. The Longhorns, who for the second straight game didn't force a turnover and are off to an 0-2 start in conference play for the first time since 1956, face former defensive coordinator-turned-Iowa State head coach Gene Chizik on Saturday at Ames. "I couldn't be prouder -- and you have to be careful saying that -- at our guys and how they fought," UT offensive coordinator Greg Davis said. "I think we saw tonight the kind of football team we have a chance to be."
